How We Make Our Bamboo Loungewear: From Forest to Your Door

Every piece of Peakybeach loungewear starts with a simple belief: what you wear to the beach — and back home on the couch — should feel as good as it looks, and it should be made with care for the planet and for the people who make it.

Here's the story of how our bamboo-cotton pieces go from raw fibre to your front door.

Why Bamboo?

We chose bamboo for one reason that quickly became many. Bamboo is one of the fastest-regenerating plants on earth — it regrows in as little as 55 days without pesticides, herbicides, or replanting. That means every harvest leaves the soil healthier than it found it.

When blended with cotton and a touch of spandex, bamboo creates a fabric that is:

  • Incredibly soft — often compared to cashmere, but breathable enough for a beach day
  • Naturally moisture-wicking — pulls sweat away from your skin so you stay comfortable from the sand to the sofa
  • Thermoregulating — keeps you cool in summer and warm on a breezy evening
  • Gentle on sensitive skin — naturally hypoallergenic and free of harsh chemical finishes

Our signature blend — 66% bamboo, 28% cotton, 6% spandex — is the result of testing fabrics until we found the one that moved with the body, held its shape wash after wash, and felt luxurious without the luxury price tag.

Designed, Cut, and Sewn in Canada

Every Peakybeach piece is designed, cut, and sewn right here in Port Colborne, Ontario. We didn't outsource production to cut costs. We kept it local because we believe in the quality that comes from hands-on craftsmanship, and because we wanted to look our makers in the eye.

Making in Canada means:

  • Shorter supply chains and a smaller carbon footprint
  • Fair wages and safe working conditions — no guessing, no auditing from afar
  • The ability to catch a fit issue or a fabric flaw before it reaches you
  • A product we're genuinely proud to put our name on

It also means every piece takes longer and costs more to produce than an overseas alternative. We think that's worth it — and based on the feedback we get, so do you.

From Our Hands to Yours

It started with a beach blanket — one that was waterproof, breathable, and actually stayed put in the sand. That problem led to a solution, and that solution led to a full line of pieces designed for the way Canadians actually live: outdoors in summer, cozy the rest of the year.

Today that line includes everything from our Women's Bamboo Cotton Hoodie to our Bamboo Lounge Pants with Phone Pocket, our Bamboo-Cotton Lounge Tunic Top, and our High-Waist Wide-Leg Lounge Pant — all made from the same bamboo-cotton blend, all made in Canada.

A Note on Care

To keep your bamboo-cotton pieces feeling their best, we recommend washing in cold water on a gentle cycle. We love pairing our pieces with Soak — a Canadian-made, no-rinse laundry product from the Toronto area that's gentle on delicate fibres and kind to the environment. A little goes a long way.

The Bottom Line

When you buy Peakybeach, you're not just buying loungewear. You're supporting Canadian makers, choosing a more sustainable fibre, and getting a piece that was built to last. We think that's a pretty good deal.
